My name is Roger Bass and for 48 years my company has specialised in the sale of Land Rovers, known these days as Defenders. I feel its about time to set the record straight. The media bowing to their politically correct masters have set their minds and hearts on destroying four wheel drive vehicles and are trying to brainwash our society that to own or drive one is looked down upon and distasteful. They, being both the government and the media term them as Gas Guzzlers, harmful to the climate, with ostentatious and non caring owners, at the same time causing them to suffer an astronomical amount in deprecation. This has led me to speak out in defence of freedom of choice in what we choose to drive, in what was once a Free Society and not to be dictated to by the E.U., Whitehall and their co-horts. I will now speak in defence of The Land Rover Defender, which is a totally separate vehicle from those vehicles to which so much venom is directed. The Defender is unique and does not fall into any of those categories. The Land Rover Defender Introduced in 1948 by the Rover Motor Company it has evolved into a British icon. It has also been adopted by the BBC programme "How Britain Was Built" eloquently narrated by Mr. David Dimbleby and co-starring a 1996 Land Rover Defender 90. It has also served with distinction in all theatres of war, our utility services, the police, the rural community and in many other roles in all corners of the world too numerous to mention. It is NOT a Gas Guzzler, it is NOT to impress the neighbours, only its owner, and as Top Gear have said Its the finest 4 wheel drive vehicle in the world. And with it being insurance group 2, it means that it is cost effective too insure and with depreciation being the lowest of any vehicle made. So lets get it straight Land Rover Defenders stand-alone and for many have become a way of life so lets not erode the virtues of this British made vehicle by putting it together with your so called Gas Guzzlers which they and there like are out so against! So, let us therefore speak proudly of the Land Rover Defender, which has taken its rightful place in British Heritage. LAND ROVER DEFENDER! LONG MAY IT REIGN ALONG WITH FREEDOM OF CHOICE
